Services and Programs





 

The Woburn Council on Aging Senior Center, is located at 144 School Street,  Woburn, MA.  The Center is accessible to individuals with physical disabilities.  We are open Monday-Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. offering morning coffee, free use of pool tables and free lending library of books, magazines, books-on-cassette, and VCR tapes.  We provide a variety of services and programs for seniors and their families that include: 

 

Information and Referral 

Call 781-897-5960 for information about services available for seniors through the Council on Aging/Senior Center, and through other local and national agencies.  Our monthly newsletter contains information regarding our free weekly lecture series, monthly trips, special events, and a daily calendar of activities.  The Newsletter is available at the Senior Center, City Hall, Woburn Public Library, and also via the mail.

Transportation Services 

The Woburn COA offers seniors curb-to-curb Van Services with a handicap accessible van and a Senior Discount Taxi Program.  Please call 781-897-5964 at least 72 hours in advance to request a ride to the Senior Center.  Volunteers are available in the Senior Discount Taxi Office (781-897-5970) Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

 

Meal Programs 
Congregate and Home-delivered Meals available at the Senior Center via Minuteman Senior Services.  Please call Meal Site Manager Nancy Mondello at 781-935-2239 for details.



Outreach Department 
The Outreach Department provides information and referral for legal issues, housing, consumer protection, medical concerns, health care proxy/advance directives & other senior issues via telephone, office and/or home visits.  Assistance is also provided to fill out applications, such as "The Ride" and food stamps.  Call Ruth Gronemeyer, Outreach Worker, at 781-897-5965.

Support Groups 
Diabetic Support Group, Low Vision Support Group, Bereavement Support Group, Veteran's Social Hour and Senior Friendship Circle; call 781-897-5960 for information. 

Senior Issues Lecture Series
Wednesday lecture series begins with a breakfast buffet at 9:45 a.m. for those attending the lecture - at a cost of $2 per breakfast and continues with a free lecture at 10:30 a.m.  Call Judy Tanner at 781-897-5963 for a listing of upcoming lectures.  This group is sponsored by "Friends Helping Seniors, Inc."

Services Available 
Call 781-897-5960 for schedule of SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Elders), Podiatrist, Blood Pressure Clinic, Hearing Tests, Haircuts, Legal Assistance with Elder Law Attorney, Fuel Assistance/TRICAP, and AARP Tax Preparation.  

Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-off Program

The City of Woburn funds the Property Tax Work-off Program annually for up to thirty seniors who work 103 hours for a City department to earn a $750.00 reimbursement.  The participants must meet specific eligibility requirements, not to exceed $45,000 for single household and $55,000 for a couple.  Call 781-897-5961 for futher details.
